The Library of Congress is proud to present this compilation of 85 years of presidential oratory. Here, in their own voices, are 17 of America's chief executives variously sharing their visions, coaxing a nation to support their political programs, and appealing for votes. In this library you will hear the voices of the recent past as well as those of our grandparent's times. You may also gain a sense of the changing role of mass communications in the United States. The collection is a study in the exercise of power through language.
